There are two basic liquor service options available for group gatherings and wedding receptions.
Cash Bar:
A cash bar is a fully stocked bar, equipped to provide full liquor, beer, and wine service. Your guests are required to pay the published price for their cocktails.
Some couples will pay for beer and wine and offer a cash bar for cocktails. This is a widely accepted practice and helps to reduce your cost while still pampering your guests.
Open Bar:
An open bar is a bar stocked with all basic liquors, liqueurs, a red wine, a white wine, and a blush wine, a regular beer and a light beer. Additional brands can be added at your request.
Open bar means your guests do not pay for drinks, and your expenses are negotiated with the reception venue beverage manager. Expenses usually consist of a cost per person for the first hour, second hour, and additional hours.
For example: A reception of 100 guests might well be negotiated at $7.00 per guest for the first hour, $5.00 per guest for the second hour, and $3.00 per guest for each additional hour for a four-hour reception. This amount is often due in advance, with any additional guests added to your closing invoice.
